Endowed Professorship Governance of Energy and Infrastructure (GEI) – Mastering Large-Scale Infrastructure Projects

In September 2014 Prof. Dr. Genia Kostka startet her professorship in Governance of Energy and Infrastructure at Hertie School of Governance in Berlin – a chair endowed by the Karl Schlecht Foundation. Prof. Kostka’s research will focus on governance in the management of complex infrastructure projects in Germany, especially in the field of energy policy.

Examples from the recent past such as the Berlin Brandenburg Airport, Stuttgart 21 or the Hamburger Elbphilharmonie revealed a serious deficit in the implementation of large-scale projects: They often become more expensive than planned, and their completion is significantly delayed. Case Studies are conducted to clarify why (first presentation on Mai 19, 2015 in Berlin). The aim of the research is the development of legal and practical solutions.

During her first semester (2014/15) Prof. Kostka will be teaching an elective on „Energy and Climate Governance in Emerging Markets“ and a core course on „The Policy Process: Climate Change and Energy Policies“.
