China's economic rise was accompanied by comprehensive international networking of the country, including with Germany. In order to simplify the increasing dialogue with China and to work together successfully, we need to understand in particular the Chinese values that strongly shape the economy and society in China today.

For this purpose, the Karl Schlecht Foundation has founded the China Centrum Tübingen (CCT), which was officially opened on 21 April 2016 and closes a gap in current Chinese research. The mission statement can be downloaded here (SM 160202) as well as Karl Schlecht's greeting to the opening of the China Centrum Tübingen (CCT) on April 21, 2016 in Tübingen.

The task of the CCT is to analyse and explain the current values, ethical norms and spiritual currents in China. A particular challenge is the goal of transferring the research results to the German business landscape in order to identify or avoid potential points of conflict in cooperation with Chinese business partners.

In connection with the World Congress of Philosophy, which took place in August 2018 at Peking University with more than 9000 participants, the renowned Confucianism expert Prof. Tu Weiming, head of the CCT partner institution World Ethos Institute Beijing (WEIB) at Peking University, gave the well-known CCTV moderator Tian Wei an interview on the topic "Civilizational Dialogue and the Future of Humanity" ( 文明对话与人类未来). The interview was broadcast this week on "World Insight" nationwide and on CGTN, the global English-language arm of CCTV.

In this video, Prof. Tu clearly explains his ideas as to which ideas of Confucianism can be connectable and of global importance today and places the "Five Core Virtues" in a modern context.

The interview is also available as a PDF file in English.
